On 30 and 31 May, Serra will host a special programme of activities for the whole family
This year, the Fira de la Calderona celebrates its 20th anniversary, having established itself as one of the highlights of the tourist and cultural calendar in the Camp de Túria region. On 30 and 31 May, Serra will once again become the hub of inland tourism, also hosting the 54th edition of Cherry Day.
For two days, the streets of the historic centre will host around a hundred stalls selling crafts, local produce and food, as well as a wide-ranging programme of activities for all ages. Workshops, children’s entertainment, parades, guided tours, live music, theatre and traditional dances will fill the town during this very special edition, which commemorates two decades of this fair dedicated to showcasing the Calderona region.
“The Fira de la Calderona is celebrating its 20th anniversary and has firmly established itself as a showcase for our heritage, our cuisine and the natural wealth we share with the villages of the mountains,” said the mayor of Serra, Alicia Tusón. “It is a celebration that speaks to who we are and all that we have to offer, and which brings together thousands of people every year to enjoy our traditions and our surroundings,” she added.
The programme includes a large craft market, guided tours of the oil museum and the Ermita tower, musical performances featuring the tabal and dulzaina, a performance by the group Comboi Mediterrani, a masterclass in traditional Valencian dances, children’s games, and demonstrations of esparto weaving, pottery and blacksmithing.
“The Fira is also an opportunity to promote Serra and Calderona as a destination for nature, cultural and gastronomic tourism,” said Tusón. “We want to continue showcasing the full potential of our villages and the Sierra Calderona Natural Park.”
This year’s event will feature the municipalities of Olocau, Gátova, Marines, Altura, Sagunto and Serra, as well as the Sierra Calderona Natural Park Office and the Camp de Túria Association of Municipalities. Products bearing the natural park brand, such as Calderona Viva and Serra pellets, will also be on display.
Furthermore, the fair will continue to highlight the value of the cherry, Serra’s signature product and the star of the traditional Cherry Day. The main event will take place on Sunday 31 May with the distribution of cherries to all visitors.
The Fira de la Calderona Dia de la Cirera has been designated a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest since 2022 and has become an unmissable event for discovering the identity, culture and heritage of Serra and the villages of the Sierra Calderona.
