This July, Serra will once again become a prime venue for classical music with the 6th La Calderona Chamber Music Festival. Now a well-established fixture in the town’s summer cultural programme, the festival – under the artistic direction of Salvador Bolón – will feature five concerts in some of the town’s most iconic heritage venues.
One of the major highlights of this year’s edition will be the participation of the renowned writer Elvira Lindo, who will present the show ‘El niño y la bestia’ (The Boy and the Beast), a production that combines literature and music with the soundtrack from A corazón abierto. The event will take place in Plaza de San Isidro and offers a unique opportunity to enjoy the voice of one of the most prominent authors in contemporary Spanish literature in an intimate and original setting.
The festival will open with a cello and piano recital at the Monastery of the Discalced Carmelites, featuring works by Beethoven, Bridge, Kodály and Myaskovsky. Throughout the week, the public will also be able to enjoy various concerts by string ensembles dedicated to great composers such as Beethoven, Boccherini, Mozart, Haydn, Tchaikovsky, Bach and Mendelssohn.
The mayor, Alicia Tusón, emphasised that “the council continues to work to ensure that culture acts as a driving force for the revitalisation of our town. The Calderona Chamber Music Festival is a testament to our commitment to providing a stable, high-quality and accessible cultural programme, which at the same time showcases our heritage sites”.
For his part, the Councillor for Cultural Promotion, Borja Martínez, added that “Elvira Lindo’s participation in this sixth edition is an extraordinary attraction and confirms the prestige the festival has built up over the years. We invite all residents and visitors to enjoy a unique cultural experience in the stunning setting of Serra”.
In addition to the artistic quality of the programme, the Calderona Chamber Music Festival remains committed to bringing music to Serra’s most distinctive venues, such as the Hermitage of Sant Josep i la Creu, the Church of Mare de Déu dels Àngels, the Torre del Señor and the convent of the Discalced Carmelites. The festival offers a cultural experience that combines heritage, nature and music
With this sixth edition, Serra reaffirms its commitment to a high-quality cultural programme and to the promotion of chamber music. The Calderona Chamber Music Festival is thus established as one of the region’s leading cultural events of the summer. Tickets are free but must be booked in advance at the Serra Tourist Office, as seating is limited.
