The City Council of Serra has decided to suspend the Fira de la Calderona and the Dia de la Cirera that was to be held on the last weekend of May as is traditional in this town located in the heart of the Sierra Calderona. The Dia de la Cirera reached this year the fiftieth edition and the Fira de la Calderona to number 16. The celebrations will have to wait until next year.
The decision has been taken after assessing the current health alert situation caused by COVID19. “We cannot guarantee that the event that receives the most visitors Serra can be held as normal. In this way, out of a sense of responsibility we make this painful decision”, says the mayor of Serra, Alicia Tusón.

With two months to go until its celebration, the consistory has decided to suspend this important milestone for the town where the entire tourist, gastronomic and commercial offer of the municipality is made known while giving cherries to all the people who visit Serra. A fair and festival that represents a great economic impact for the town, serves to deseasonalize tourism while it is the “great showcase of everything that Serra offers” says Tusón who highlights “the effort and the determined commitment of this city council to make tourism one of the main engines of the economy. A nature tourism, but also gastronomic and cultural with the recovery of the monumental heritage of the town that we are carrying out “.

The celebration of the Calderona Fair and Cherry Day also brings together all the commercial, leisure, gastronomic and handicraft fabric of the town. It shows the associative fabric of the municipality, while giving the opportunity to be present in all the municipalities that make up the territory of the Sierra Calderona and in the office of the Natural Park. In addition, the fair is complemented by numerous leisure activities, guided tours, street entertainment, live music, workshops for the little ones and the traditional meeting of tabalet and dulzaineros. The preparation of the Calderona Fair and Cherry Day involves a great work of logistics and municipal coordination since months before its celebration.
