The municipality of Serra prepares to live the 19th Fira de la Calderona and the 53rd edition of the Cherry Day. An event that brings together every year thousands of visitors around the natural, cultural and gastronomic wealth of Serra and the municipalities of the Natural Park of Serra Calderona.
On May 31 and June 1, the streets of the historic center of Serra will be filled with a hundred stalls of crafts, local products and gastronomy. Visitors can enjoy workshops, children’s activities, guided tours, theater and music, in a program designed for all ages. A fair that is a festival of regional tourist interest since 2022.
“The Fira de la Calderona and the Dia de la Cirera represent the essence of Serra: a mountain village proud of its environment, its traditions and its products. We invite everyone to visit us and enjoy a unique experience,” said the mayor of Serra, Alicia Tusón. Tusón adds, “the Fira serves to promote Serra and other villages of the Calderona as a destination for nature, gastronomic and cultural tourism.”
The Cherry Day was born to promote the most typical product of this town nestled in the heart of the Calderona, the cherry. A fruit that has been losing weight as a result of the abandonment of agriculture and climate change. Even so, the Cherry Day continues to be celebrated “to pay tribute to our ancestors and our tradition” says the mayoress, Alicia Tusón.
The Calderona Fair brings together different localities of three Valencian regions, Camp de Túria, Camp de Morvedre and Alto Palancia, between the provinces of Valencia and Castellón, under the umbrella of the territory that makes up the Sierra Calderona. This year will be present Olocau, Gátova, Nàquera, Altura, the office of the Parc Natural de la Serra Calderona and companies and activities with the natural park brand.
The program includes a large market of local products and crafts, theatrical performances with Maria la Calderona, the actress after whom the mountain range is named, as protagonist, guided tours of the museum of l’Oli and the tower of the Hermitage, musical performances, parades with the dolçaina and tabals, craft workshops, children’s games, master class of traditional Valencian dances, the performance of the Valencian singer Colomet, and music to the rhythm of batukada. The main event of the fair will be held on Sunday June 1 with the distribution of cherries to all visitors to the town.
