Castell de Serra
Serra will host next Saturday, June 9, a march to the castle to celebrate Environment Day that is commemorated over the world on the 5th of this month. The departure will be from the Townhall car park, in front of the tourist office at 10 in the morning.

The event is organized by the Office of the Natural Park of the Sierra Calderona with the collaboration of the Townhall of Serra. To participate, you must register in the email serra_calderona@gva.es or phone 679195238. Places are limited.

To climb the castle of Serra, we will follow the green route, Castell. We’ll see the Tower of Ria and the fountain of l’Ombria. The tour will run along the traditional path of the castle. From the castle there will be a garbage collection around and will discuss the problem of the indiscriminate use of plastics.

The Castle was built in the 8th and 9th centuries and is a construction from the Arab period that belonged to the defensive system of the north of València. Regarding the history of the Castle, it should be mention that when Alfonso VI of Castile wanted to give the Kingdom of Valencia to Yahya Al-Qadir, King of Toledo, he sent a small army troop at the orders of Álvar Fáñez ─El Cid Campeador’s cousin─ to Serra’s Castle. The troops conquered the Castle in 1086 and were encamped there for a while. Once in the Castle, Al-Qadir received the keys of the Kingdom.
